Billet Box Nub and Tip Set from NS Modz

I purchased a couple Billet Box nub and tip sets from NS Modz from the UK as well as the matching buttons and they arrived today. They look great!

NS Modz

The reason I wanted to give these a try is that I wanted more options for the “Mission Tip” nub game. I have quite a few Never Normal nubs and plenty of Mission bases for them, but it’s always good to have more options. I want to make it clear that the website doesn’t claim these are a replacement for the base in the Mission tip set, but it does say, “Compatible With Existing Nub Tips Already On The Market”.

Here is what the bases look like side by side. The NS Modz base (left) sits flush with the device while the Mission base sinks in a little. Some of the existing nibs on the market will fit down into the sunken area with the Mission base. Another difference is the knurling on the base of the Mission base. That makes it easier to put the base on or take it off.

How is the cross compatibility?

In the photos above, you can see the nub that comes with the NS set (left) sits great on the base. The Never Normal nub (middle) sits down on the base just as good. The Mission nub sits great too. The only problem comes with using the nub from the NS set with the base of the Mission set. The nub will not make it over the knurling. For me, that isn’t a problem, but it would be great if it would work all directions.

Quality?

Yep! Check! These sets feel nice and are well crafted. The base and nub are machined from the same material and feel quite solid.

How do you get a set?

These are available on the NS Modz website for £27.50, that’s about $36.15 USD. In my opinion, these are well worth it. They come in Stainless Steel and Brass.

Conclusion

Not being able to use the NS tips with a Mission base isn’t a problem for me because most of the nubs I use are from Never Normal. If you want a base to use other companies’ nubs, these will work fine. The fit with the NS base and other nubs is great and the oring holds them in place just fine. The only negatives are that the NS nubs won’t fit down on the Mission base and I would love to see knurling on the NS base for easier grip.

The stainless steel Billet Box nub and tip set has a permanent home on my Dead Flipper. It’s a perfect match to the stock SS button.

  1. […] purchased a couple of the NS Modz V1 sets last year and wrote about them here on the site. I had a couple of complaints, but nothing major. I’ve since lost the brass […]
