YOTD Billet Box – Throwback Thursday

Have you seen a YOTD (Year Of The Dog) Billet Box being sold with a huge price tag?

The reason why is because these things are hard to come by. You will see one occasionally in a hand check but you will rarely see one come up for sale and when they do, don’t bother asking how much, unless you have deep pockets. If you check out our Billet Box History Timeline, we covered the YOTD release.

Happy Chinese New Year – Year of the Dog 4716

Billet Box Vapor announced the Year of the Dog special edition Billet Box. According to the Chinese Zodiac, 2018 is the Year of the Dog. This version was made to commemorate the Chinese New Year for 2018. These versions are cherished by those that get their hands on them. From what I have gathered, these were made available in Fawkes, Rat, Unicorn Poo, Clear, TMNBB, Dober, RPG, and BX.

Billet Box Vapor announced the Year of the Dog Billet Box on Friday February 16th, 2018.

In case you can’t read “super neat-o squiggles”… allow me to translate…. it saysssssss…..
“rib cage duck-in-a-box Hilary Swank detonator fork lift”
but in all honesty, according to the paper place mat at ming dynasty buffet, I am a dog…. so this is kinda a big deal for me…

Apparently, the fans of the Billet Box on ECF were more excited about the launch of the Atmizoo VapeShell than the Year of the Dog Billet Boxes, as there was only one mention in between all the commotion about the VapeShell. Our Editor, HBCorpse, was one of those ECF members glossing over this important release from BBV.

The one mention on ECF was on Monday, February 19th, 2018 and it was announced that these Year of the Dog boxes were live. Knowing that they normally do the drops on Saturday, I was confused, but I checked on BBV’s Facebook page and they posted twice on the 19th, one time to say that they would have boxes up that day and the other time to say that they were “going up in 30 minutes”. One of the few comments showed someone had purchased an Dober SS-B YOTD.

In anticipation of this article, I reached out to Billet Box Vapor to ask the following questions:

  1. How many of each color were made?
  2. Were there just the 8 colors I have found so far?
  3. Were they all the same button config? The Rat Black seems to have had a Stainless Steel button, did all Rats have SS button?

They didn’t get back to me, so I started digging and asking questions again.

I don’t believe we will ever know the answer to Question 1, unless Billet Box Vapor lets us know. A couple of the people I talked with seem to recall hearing that there were only 10 of each YOTD Billet Box models sold. One thing is for sure, not too many come up for sale.

Question 2 is in the air, but I feel that there were only the 8 colors shown in the gallery (below). Some that I talked to seem to think they made a YOTD in every color, but some recall never seeing a Kurbis or Nugget. I feel fairly confident that they only made these in 8 colors.

I found a few people that had these models and asked if they would share what was on their box. I figured that if I found a couple of boxes of the same color, it would confirm that all Rat Blacks came with a SS Button, etc. This might not matter, but I was able to find 2 Rat Black boxes and they both were SS-B. I also found 2 Dober boxes and they were both SS. The stock images I was able to find (below) show the Rat and Dober in SS-B. Both Fawkes box photos, one from Charles Boa and one from Austin Tran are both labeled as Firebald, a Fawkes with a Mother of Pearl button. Again, the stock photos below show the Fawkes with a MOP button. I am fairly convinced that all of the models of a certain color were the same as the stock photos. Question 3 is answered.

In addition, I was able to find this screenshot in the archives from BBV’s Shop from when these were for sale. These color/button combos also line up with the stock images in the gallery.

I really wanted to uncover more information about these awesome, hard to find Billet Box models, but this is all I could come up with without information direct from the maker. I would love to get my hands on one, but I don’t think that will happen.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
